Behaviour Policy

It is essential for me to establish expectations that children's behaviour will not be acceptable if it is:

• Dangerous
• Hurtful
• Offensive to others
• Dangerous to individual
• Damages property
• Will make child unacceptable to others

When managing a children's behaviour I will:

• Be positive and not negative
• Encourage good behaviour with rewards and praise
• Set good examples
• Be firm and consistent
• Only intervene in disputes when necessary
• Discourage bad behaviour by ignoring it when possible

Children will not be smacked in accordance with NCMA policy

House rules:

• Children are encouraged to eat at the table
• Children are encouraged not play in the kitchen
• Children are encouraged not jump on the furniture
• Children are encouraged not play on the stairs

It is necessary for me to have this policy and these rules to provide a happy environment for all concerned.

Emergency Plan

In the event of an emergency involving a member of my family that requires my immediate attention and prevents me being able to continue minding the children in my care at the time:

• I would initially try to contact the parents if time allowed
• I would contact my emergency cover Marion Ryan, or Rachael Wearring
• If neither were attainable will take the children with me until I could
  make contact
• As a last resort if it not possible to take them with me I would ask
  another responsible adult and give them the parents contact numbers.

In the event of emergency involving a minded child

• If it were life-or-death situation I would seek medical help
  and then contact the Parents, making a arrangements for any of the children in my care as outlined above.
• If I felt the situation was not urgent but could not wait until the end
  of the minding day, I would contact the Parents and tell them my concerns and decide the best course of action

• Downstairs
  • leave by either the front or back door if possible if not we could try the window as its large enough to climb out of
• Upstairs
  • we would leave by one of the bedroom windows, first throwing out a mattress
• If time allows we would not panic, but call fire brigade as we have phones both upstairs and downstairs
